Bright Lights, Big City

You go off to buy a drink, keeping both eyes peeled for lonely women. There don't seem to be any at the moment. Everyone knows everyone else. You are on the anti-cline of your first rush. You are also experiencing the inevitable disappointment of clubs. You enter with an anticipation that on the basis of past experience is entirely unjustified. You always seem to forget that you don't really like to dance. Since you are already here, though, you owe it to yourself to make a sustained assault on the citadel of good times.

Maybe I'll Try Doing This Again

Sometimes I still feel like getting stuff out with no particular audience...



So I got a Wii, finally, and it really is as cool as it sounds. I got
Tiger Woods '07, I didn't really expect it to be as real as it is.
Putting could be better, but full shots are one of the coolest things
i've ever experienced in a video game. I need to turn up the
difficulty, I was sinking 30 footers like it was nothing and shot a 63
(I should have shot 61, I double bogeyed 18).



I am about to finish reading Lunar Park, the newest (I think) Bret
Easton Ellis book (The Rules of Attraction, American Psycho). It's
really good, although it's hard to explain why, cause it's really
wierd, I'm not sure I get it yet. Sometimes I feel like there's almost
too much to get, but I think if I thought about it long enough it could
probably be boiled down. I would recommend reading at least Less Than
Zero and American Psycho first, probably his other books too it draws a
lot from them. I bought The Informers, Glamorama and Bright Lights Big
City (different author, same style though), hopefully I can continue
reading now that I am riding the metro to work. I want to read
Catch-22, people say it's good, for some reason I haven't been able to
bring myself to do it, I think i'm afraid I wont like it even though
I'm supposed to.



I saw this girl (maybe I need to start saying woman instead) on the bus
today, she kinda caught my eye when she got on (her and her friend
actually). When I was getting up to get off she was standing right in
front of me wearing white pants. I hadn't really looked up until this
point since she got on, I already knew she was gorgeous and I was
suprisingly more interested in my book (I TRY not to stare, I usually
don't try very hard). Anyway, I got up and realized you could clearly
see her thong through the pants, it was the kind with like a 2 inch
lace band around the waste and then a thin little strip at a right
angle that went down her ass. Needless to say it was UNBELIEVABLY
hot. On a broader subject I want to know where I can meet these women
I see on the metro/bus. You know, the attractive well dressed kind
that have good jobs and read books and/or the newspaper. Then again,
I'd like to meet just about anyone at this point.



I really like Sam's Town, I learned this yesterday... (That's how it goes with me and records)



My Dad is on a business trip in Afghanistan...

I beat the bootloader

I waged an epic battle today, my opponent was the windows bootloader. I gained the victory by allying with his arch-rival linux and it's capable partition editor, while using its own fixmbr and fixboot routines against it. The beast now boots XP after being imaged from a dual boot to a single boot system with completely different hardware.

Seriously it was a kind of cool thing I did at work today...

Have I started a Political Blog?

It's beginning to seem that way, maybe it's just because I never read enough before, but does it seem like this country is taking a turn for the worse. These things keep coming up over and over and over again...

But apparently there are some of us who cannot see, that the only future for America is one that cherishes the freedoms won in the past, one in which we vanquish bad ideas with better ones, and in which we fight for liberty by having more liberty, not less.

American Culture?

So, I stumbled on this article today, and I wonder if some people ever went to 10th grade.

There is a Dennis Prager quote in there that is particularly mystifying. A muslim elected to congress wants to take his oath on the Koran instead of a Bible, and here's what Prager had to say about it.
He should not be allowed to do so -- not because of any American hostility to the Koran, but because the act undermines American civilization.
American civilization, muslims are a part of American civilization you dumbass, as is the Koran and the idea of religious freedom, so I fail to see how this does anything but affirm American civilization.
First, it is an act of hubris that perfectly exemplifies multiculturalist activism -- my culture trumps America's culture. What Ellison and his Muslim and leftist supporters are saying is that it is of no consequence what America holds as its holiest book; all that matters is what any individual holds to be his holiest book. ...
I don't even understand this idea of multicultural activism and trumping american culture, these people are in fact American, they are American culture, they can't trump their own culture, this makes no sense to me. What is this idea of America's holiest book, last time I checked we weren't a religious state, meaning we have no holiest book. Ellison is right, what the individual hold holy is all that matters, because it's that person taking the oath, if he takes the oath with something he would just as well use as toilet paper it doesn't mean anything.
Devotees of multiculturalism and political correctness who do not see how damaging to the fabric of American civilization it is to allow Ellison to choose his own book need only imagine a racist elected to Congress. Would they allow him to choose Hitler's "Mein Kampf," the Nazis' bible, for his oath? And if not, why not? On what grounds will those defending Ellison's right to choose his favorite book deny that same right to a racist who is elected to public office?
Ok, first of all this is stupid because it assumes a racist could even get elected to public office. That aside, personally, I wouldn't deny the racist the right to use whatever book he wanted, and I feel the need to liken this to free speech. In order preserve our own freedom of speech, we have to accept the fact that others may not agree with them. If we are to deny Ellison his right to take the oath on the Koran, what is to prevent us from later denying people from using the Bible to take an oath. Didn't we all learn this in 10th grade when we had to do ill prepared debates on free speech and other constitutional freedoms?

Is the President Even Human?

At a private reception held at the White House with newly elected lawmakers shortly after the election, Bush asked Webb how his son, a Marine lance corporal serving in Iraq, was doing.

Webb responded that he really wanted to see his son brought back home, said a person who heard about the exchange from Webb.

“I didn’t ask you that, I asked how he’s doing,” Bush retorted, according to the source.

Webb confessed that he was so angered by this that he was tempted to slug the commander-in-chief, reported the source, but of course didn’t. It’s safe to say, however, that Bush and Webb won’t be taking any overseas trips together anytime soon.
